About Cold Therapy
Why Use Cold Wrap Therapy? The Cold Facts
For years, cold therapy has been recommended and used by medical professionals to treat acute pains in the joints and muscles such as swelling, sprain, strains and even dental pain due to their ability to:
- Reduce muscle spasms from joint problems or irritated nerves.
- Reduce swelling and soothe inflamed tissues.
- Stop the urge to scratch an itch.
- Limit the effects of a bruise or muscle strain.
Cold Therapy Precautions
While home remedies like a bag of frozen peas or ice in a wash cloth have long been favorites, medical personnel now advise caution due to the danger of frost bite and tissue damage. Cold pads, like the ThermalOn line of cold therapy products, are a safer, more effective option. However, even with a safe cold therapy product , it's still important to use caution. We recommend users:
- Limit the cold therapy time to 30 minutes or less depending on the type of application. Stop treatment immediately if it causes cold shivers, increased pain or skin irritation.
- Avoid use of cold wraps in areas of poor circulation, numbness or bony areas, as skin can freeze rapidly.
- Do not use cold so extreme that it causes pain.
Cold wraps and pads can be a great ally in pain relief, but if you have questions regarding your pain or its cause, please consult a physician before beginning a treatment program.
